    The Acute Quality and Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for the collaborative development, implementation, and management of a quality and patient safety assessment and performance improvement program for regional acute care services. Experience in Quality/Pt. Safety concepts, Performance Improvement, and regulatory requirements are foundational. Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams (including physicians, leaders, and staff), and assisting in accreditation/ regulatory readiness and surveys. Extensive experience in Quality, Performance Improvement, data interpretation, software knowledge and management for event reporting, and regulatory requirements.

    Responsibilities/Job Description

    The Quality and Patient Safety Specialist investigates/explores complex organizational issues in order to identify and develop priorities for improvement. This role is responsible for developing process/performance improvement plans, directing/managing implementation teams, assure long-term success, and bringing projects to completion. Serve as an expert who possesses the knowledge and skill required to facilitate breakthrough improvement in key processes that support overall objectives of quality and pt. safety across the organization, and at the entity/region of support. Work with front line staff on improvement efforts.


    Key points that will make someone successful:

    • Knowledge of quality, pt. safety and improvement principles, tools and methods. 
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission and CMS.
    • Data management and assessment skills. 
    • Clinical knowledge base with review and assessment of clinical records and data. 
    • Evidence-Based Practice knowledge and skills.




    • Bachelors Degree in Business, Nursing, Healthcare or related field


    • 10 + years nursing or healthcare experience with some quality/pt. safety, and process improvement and/or project management experience or three years leading performance improvement efforts utilizing formal tools and methodology



    • MBA, MHA, or Masters Degree in related field
    • Preferred License/Certification/Registration
    • Process Improvement Certifications 
    • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
    • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)


    • 3 years management experience.

    • Effective team facilitator
    • Understanding of care delivery operations and business operations
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing demands
    • Personal commitment to prescribed learning process 
    • Interest in sitting for Black Belt certification examination 
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills 
    • Negotiation and leadership skills desired 
    • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, people and time effectively; 
    • Ability to implement policies and procedures.
