    Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers provide innovative, comprehensive and interdisciplinary care for women.  As the only Maternal-Fetal specialists in the region associated with an academic medical center, our specialists bring their own expertise as well as collaboration with neonatologists, geneticists and other University of Minnesota Health specialists to provide the highest level of care for women and their babies — from preconception to post-partum.

     

    We care for women who are:

    Of advanced maternal age

    Pregnant with a child who has indications of an abnormality such as spina bifida or Down Syndrome

    Pregnant with multiples

     

    We also care for women who have:

    A history of preterm delivery

    A history of preterm labor

    An incompetent cervix

    Gestational diabetes

    History of preeclampsia

    Pre-existing medical conditions, such as cardiac disease or cystic fibrosis

    Prior fetal or neonatal death

    Recurrent pregnancy losses

     

     

    Responsibilities/Job Description

    The Registered Nurse is resonsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s)

     

    Responsibilities/Job Description

    • Involves the patient, family and other health team members in gathering data.Analyzes data and information to identify potential risks, prioritize needs and determine priority problems
    • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable
    • Validates these with patient, family and other health team members
    • Documents data and identified outcomes
    • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
    • Determines nursing interventions based on identified needs
    • Identifies interdisciplinary resources needed to assist in implementing the nursing plan of care

    • Prioritizes interventions based on patient acuity, available resources, and patient/family preferences and needs

    • Documents and updates the plan of care to assure continuity throughout the continuum of care

    • Provides care, education and support for patients during pregnancy terminations consistent with applicable laws.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Current MN RN license 
    • BLS upon hire
    • Minimum two years of full-time Level II or Level III Labor and Deliver RN experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelors nursing
    • Knowledge and skill in the nursing role when caring for patients undergoing the following procedures/interventions: Ultrasound, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, amniocentesis, chorionic villi sampling and fetal monitoring. Knowledge of high-risk patient’s learning needs and education resources, normal pathophysiology of pregnancy and potential impact of risk factors such as, but not limited to, diabetes, genetic disorders, blood dyscrasias, and solid organ transplantation. Knowledge of routine antepartum tests and procedures and ability to coordinate complex patient care.
